Sunday, December 11th, 2022, immediately after church there will be a congregational gathering.
The first step in the process for congregations undergoing a change in ministry personnel in the United Church is to prepare a Congregational Profile that includes a “Living Faith Story” expressing who we are as a faith community. The December 11 gathering will be an opportunity for you as the congregation to engage in conversation about how we see JBUC as we look forward to finding the right person to carry on the ministry of this congregation. We hope you will join either the in-person gathering for a light lunch and a stimulating conversation, or the online coffee group for discussion there.
Work is underway to prepare for a new minister after Karen Dickey retires in the summer. The United Church has a clear process for moving toward that change. An early step is to prepare a Congregational Profile that will tell an interested minister about James Bay United Church. We need input from the congregation for that. We will meet (some in person and some online) on Sunday, December 11th after the worship service. You will be invited to respond to three questions which we are giving to you ahead of time so you can think about them.
1. a) How would you describe James Bay United Church to a friend?
1. b) Name three things that make you want to be here.
2. a) Our worship each week begins with the statement that our purpose for being is to open doors to God’s love. What are signs that we are opening doors to God’s love here in James Bay and beyond?
2. b) Are there ways that you feel personally drawn to be part of that?
3. There are a variety of things that need to be done in the church. The United Church names nine key tasks. You will be asked which are most important for a minister to be doing.
Please join us on December 11th. Lunch will be provided to the in-person group and you will be out of the church by 1:30pm at the latest!
