Update and InvitationJoin the James Bay Refugee Initiative - Sunday, March 24, 2019 We are very pleased and relieved with the news we received last evening – the application to sponsor Leyla’s husband has been completed and sent to the Resettlement Operations Centre in Ottawa. And now we wait... We’ve been told it will likely be at least a year and a half before we can expect to meet Ahmad at the Victoria International Airport – the same airport at which Leyla arrived after her gruelling 40 hour trip to Victoria in 2017. In the meantime, the James Bay Refugee Initiative continues to find ways to raise the additional money required in order to sponsor a refugee in Canada. We are still $7,000 to $8,000 short of what we need for a successful sponsorship. This Sunday afternoon, March 24th, at 2:30 the first official fundraising event of this sponsorship will be held at James Bay United Church. It promises to be a really fine concert and we hope you might think about attending. Thank you so much for your companionship in this work. None of it is possible without your support.
