Sunday Service - Pentecost Sunday already!Virtual Sunday Services - Sunday, May 31, 2020 “When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place” … that’s how the story begins, the one that gives shape to our Pentecost celebration every year. So this year, odd though it may be that we gather around this story, you in your small corner and I in mine, we will celebrate Pentecost in any event … with no telling (yet) what it will make of us! Here’s just a taste of what you can anticipate this Sunday. We usually do this within the gathered community …the blessing of a prayer shawl But on this day, it was in the surround of another community -- of Canada geese and turtles, squawking Peacocks, Gary Oaks and Douglas Fir, the ever resilient grass, and human creatures too, passing through Beacon Hill Park. Norma had made the shawl for Joyce Willems while she was away this winter, and was ready to have it blessed on her return. But then, so suddenly, Joyce died. Last Wednesday, we gathered in this very place that was special to Joyce. And the shawl, with all its thoughts of Joyce and loving energy, was wrapped around Karla, Joyce’s daughter. The blessing continues. |
Many thanks
Thank you, everyone, for the cards and letters-in-cards and phone calls and texts of support and encouragement while I have been off from my work on restorative leave. I now have a diagnosis of a small benign growth in my stomach that needs to be removed. Thankfully, I also have a date for my surgery. So hopefully it won't be too long before I am back on a healing path and hopefully able to contribute more to the community at James Bay United. I want to say a special thanks to Steve who has patiently navigated me through my sick leave paperwork and for the support of my colleagues and the board. See you soon, Gordon |
Scooter RepairOur Place Society offers more than a meal For many in our James Bay neighbourhood, a scooter is a part of life. Imagine if you lived on the streets and needed your scooter repaired. Art is someone who feels deeply for others, and when he heard the stories of people struggling with basic mobility, he knew he needed to do something. “I know why Our Place refers to the people it serves as ‘family’,” he says. “They deserve to have dignity, and that’s something I can help with.” For more infomation visit:
