'Trane 58 - Jazz at the Church - on SaturdayFeaturing from Montreal - Alan McLean - Saturday, May 21, 7PM NOTE this is on Saturday at 7pmSaxophonist, composer and jazz pioneer John Coltrane created a sound and philosophy of music that shifted the whole of jazz, not once but arguably 3 times in his life. Equal parts history, personal exploration and collaboration with his fellow musicians, each of 'Trane's creative periods created something distilled, unique and powerful. In this special presentation we explore Coltrane's music from 1958 onwards, essentially in his middle artistic period.
Such a venture requires - to state the obvious - a tenor saxophonist of remarkable virtuosity and ability but whom also seeks the expression of their own heart and creative spirit within the music. In Montreal's Al McLean, MacNayr has found just that. A musician who is unquestionably one of the world's foremost authorities on the music of John Coltrane, who speaks fluently the language created by Coltrane and is free to express his own musical passion and creativity.
