To our neighbours and those attending programs at the church this past week
Hello members and friends of James Bay United Church, As many of you are aware, this has been an extremely challenging week at the church for residents close to the church, others moving through the neighbourhood, AND for those of you volunteering at the Thrift Shop or attending the various programs in the church. The person who was occupying the parking lot and church frontage was and is clearly struggling. We were in communication with his outreach worker through the week and got word a place had finally opened up for him to move to rehab on Friday. We had hoped to support him to get to this critical opportunity. Our intent was not to have him camp in the church yard for a week. The ultimatums he agreed to, he failed to keep. On Friday morning at 6am, three of us from the church and his outreach worker arrived with two trucks and removed him and his belongings and thoroughly cleaned the parking lot and front patio. We have learned a number of important things through this experience. We are now planning to bring the broader community together to talk in depth about how we navigate our way such that the well-being of everyone is upheld. Please watch for an invitation to a meeting that we will convene soon. Respectfully, Karen Dickey, Minister |
