Why this special edition e-news?

Why this special edition e-news?

We asked the Search Team to provide the congregation with a fuller update on the search for a new minister.

Your team members - Martin Stewart, Colleen Nichol, Owen McCooey, Karen Halliday and Colleen Adair (Chair) - have prepared this e-news in response.

Please read this note and the accompanying links carefully, and think about their request.

Together, we can help continue the fabulous community that is James Bay United Church!

Thanks!

The Search Team Update

Our congregation has been instrumental before in finding a person that was just right for the job. It’s possible we can do that again! We are an amazing community with many skills and resources. The power of using these, alongside prayerful consideration, could help us find our new minister. They are out there – we need to find them and invite them to be a part of our family at James Bay United Church!

We are seeking a minister!

A brief synopsis for you to pass along to a minister whom you think would be a good fit for JBUC.  Please encourage them to see our Community of Faith Profile on ChurchHub and to check out our wonderful JBUC website!

We are seeking an Ordered Minister (Ordained or Diaconal) of the United Church for a .75 FTE position (30 h/wk) within a complement of other staff and supportive lay leaders. A start date of August 1, 2023 is desirable, and a later start date can easily be negotiated. Our congregation is seeking a minister who will offer leadership in worship, pastoral care, leadership development, faith formation and visioning for the future.  If you β€” or someone you know β€” would be interested in this position, please have inquiries and applications submitted via ChurchHub.

A Snapshot of the Process of Calling a New Minister

The Rev. Karen Dickey provided a written resignation to the church board, the regional council and the Office of Vocation noting a retirement date of July 31, 2023.

The Search Team continues to review minister profiles on ChurchHub and reflect on other possible ways to encourage applications.

Back in 2019 (now known as 'the before times'), we wrapped up our AGM with this great video recap of our year.

Check it out once more, and think of someone you'd invite to join us in leadership.

Truly - it's a wonder!
