Sunday Worship

Sunday Worship

Sunday, June 22, 2025

With Saturday, June 21 being National Indigenous Peoples Day, our Sunday worship will be themed accordingly. This is a time to honour the strength and resilience of individuals and Indigenous communities, and to honour the many diverse spiritualities practiced by Indigenous folks.

We read from Paul’s letter to the Galatians, which teaches about unity. While it is tempting to syncretize the teachings of Jesus with Indigenous spirituality and mythology – and indeed there are many common themes – we also do well to honour the differences to better understand the many dimensions of God/Creator/Holy Mystery.

Welcome: Rev. Greg Powell
Tech Team: Nathan McDormand, Jamie Waters
Scripture Reading: Galatians 3:23-29

In Loving Memory of Aleksa

In Loving Memory of Aleksa

With great sadness, we relay the news that Aleksa Harkness died in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Her wonderful spirit will continue to fill the sanctuary and the thrift shop as we grieve the loss of a dear friend and companion. We hold Judy and Sean in our prayers. There will be a service at the church at a date to be determined.

Pride Worship: We Are A Rainbow

Watch the video and relive the moment!

Our Pride Worship on June 15 ended in the most joyful way — dancing with painted Pride Doors to Lady Gaga’s anthem of love and self-acceptance.

At James Bay United, we affirm that everyone is worthy of love just as they are.

Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day

Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day

June 21

June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day — a time to honour the rich cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across what is often known as Turtle Island.

At James Bay United Church, today we celebrate the wisdom, creativity, and resilience of Indigenous communities. We acknowledge the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation.

May this day invite us all into deeper respect, learning, and relationship.
