Sunday WorshipFebruary 1, 10:15 – 11:30 AM This Sunday we read from the prophet Micah, including the much-quoted imperative to seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. The context for Micah’s writing is critical: he’s writing to his fellow country-folk, condemning their actions and warning them of the imminent destruction and conquest by the neighbouring Assyrian empire. The kin-dom of God, Jesus tells us eight centuries after Micah’s writing, does not belong to the emperors and conquerors, but rather to the merciful, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted because of righteousness. Introducing Our New Communications & Community Relations RoleStaffing Update As the needs of our faith community change and grow, so does the staffing model we use to equip the church to thrive. For the past few years, Zunaira Mustaqeem worked on our behalf from Vancouver as a contractor in the role of Communications Coordinator. We are grateful to her for the fine services that she provided James Bay United. At our most recent board meeting it was decided that we needed to bring the role of Communications Coordinator ‘in-house’ and combine it with the role of Donor Relations creating a part-time on-site role of Communications & Community Relations. We are thrilled to announce that Natalia Zhuravlova was offered and has accepted this new position. If you donated $20 or more in 2025, you can pick up an envelope with your tax receipt(s) before or after our Sunday Service. Envelopes will be available at the Greeters’ table at the ramp entrance and brought downstairs during coffee time. After a couple of weeks, any uncollected receipts will be mailed via Canada Post. Please note: tax receipts for donations made through CanadaHelps or Zeffy are issued directly by those services. Our tax receipts do not cover those donations. You may use their receipts together with ours. Questions? Email donors@jamesbayunited.com or find Natalia during the Sunday Service. |

A Brief Theology of TyrannySALT Project In this age of churning conflict, grief, and rising authoritarianism, what can we learn about tyranny today from two different Declarations: one from Germany in 1934, and the other from America in 1776? And what do they both have to do with Jesus, Caesar, and an ancient Roman coin? (With thanks to SALT) For more infomation visit: https://www.saltproject.org/progressive-christian-blog/2026/1/27/a-brief-theology-of-tyranny

Peace, Seen Through Young EyesA drawing that reminds us we belong to one another This powerful drawing was created several years ago by Jadyn Stickwood, then a Grade 8 student at Sunderland Public School in Ontario, as part of her school’s annual poster contest. The artwork went on to receive international recognition as a Merit Award winner in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest, placing Jadyn among the top 24 artists out of more than 600,000 entries worldwide. Although Jadyn completed the poster even before the war in Ukraine began, she later reflected that recent global events have only deepened the meaning of the message she hoped to share.
