Five of the West Coast’s top swing musicians join forces in a special ensemble dedicated to celebrating the timeless sound and swing of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Featuring Victoria’s own, the incredible Chris Sartisohn on lead guitar, virtuoso violinist Richard Moody, rhythm guitarist extraordinaire Paul Dowd, acoustic bassist Joey Smith, and drummer Kelby MacNayr. Enjoy music from the classic Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli repertoire, alongside favourite selections and seldom-heard gems from the Swing tradition! The Capital City SyncopatorsTuesday, May 26, 7:00–8:30 pm Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church proudly presents the Capital City Syncopators! The brainchild of guitarist, banjo player, and vocalist Avram McCagherty, The Capital City Syncopators is an all-star outfit playing Prohibition-era jazz. Featuring the outrageous Australian trumpeter Simon Stribling, the mighty sousaphone of Don Cox playing the role of the bass, and percussionist extraordinaire Matt Pease at the drums, this band brings the sound of early jazz to life! Avram McCagherty has been a mainstay of the local jazz scene for over 20 years, performing in traditional jazz, Django Reinhardt-inspired styles, and swing. A specialist in Klezmer music and Irish styles as well, Avram is a prodigious historian, storyteller, and entertainer. Simon Stribling’s work has been celebrated across three continents, and he is one of the country’s most highly regarded traditional jazz trumpeters. A consummate showman and energetic powerhouse on the bandstand, Stribling’s performances never disappoint!
