Sunday Worship feat. Singing Our FaithJune 7, 10:30–11:30 am Our Worship experience this Sunday will be shaped entirely around HYMNS. And not just any hymns… but rather, hymns that for a whole host of reasons hold special significance for us. It might be that the hymn — in its beautiful interweaving of both word and music — has spoken to us at a particular time in our lives, or ALL the times of our lives… a hymn that encourages and sustains us. Whatever it is, from each person who has offered their touchstone hymn we will have an opportunity to hear a brief reflection of “why this hymn”. AND of course, an opportunity to raise our voices along with them as we sing each hymn with perhaps a whole new appreciation for its power for life. So please join us — whether in person or online — as we “Sing Our Faith” together. For more infomation visit:

Request for PrayerMessage from the Board The board invites your prayers as they go on retreat this weekend. Pray for wisdom, unity, and courage as they work together to discern the Spirit's leading, grappling with the question: What are the yearnings — the deepest longings — of our world and our community, and how is the Spirit calling us to respond? |

"Strengthening Community One Social Justice Issue at a Time"by Kariann Aarup If you haven't had a chance to read the June issue of the James Bay Beacon yet, don't delay! Be sure to check out the wonderful article on pages 2–3 featuring our own Helen Boyd, leader of the Climate Action Team at James Bay United Church. Written by the talented and thoughtful Kariann Aarup, the article tells Helen's story with warmth, sensitivity, and genuine curiosity. You'll learn about Helen's remarkable background, the truly transformative community initiatives she helped create in Comox, and the passions and values that continue to inspire her work today. It's the kind of story that leaves you not only informed, but grateful to know Helen. We think you'll come away with an even deeper appreciation for her extraordinary commitment to community, climate action, and making a difference. |

A Final Week to Add Your VoiceYour Signature Can Make a Difference Our federal e-petition supporting vulnerable Afghan refugees remains open for signatures for one more week. If you, your family members, or your friends have not yet signed, there is still time to add your voice. Thanks to tremendous community support, around 1,600 people have already signed the petition. We are deeply grateful for this response. Every additional signature helps demonstrate the importance of this issue and strengthens the call for action. Please help us bring "our" Afghan family — and many others living under the threat of deportation, persecution, and uncertainty — to safety in Canada. Together, we can help give them the opportunity to build a secure future and begin a new chapter of hope, belonging, and peace. Message from United Church Moderator, Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath for Pride
In 2025, The United Church of Canada offered an apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ people and communities — naming the real harm caused through words, actions, silence, and systems that failed to protect and affirm God’s beloved people. This message reflects on that apology — not as an ending, but as a beginning. A threshold into deeper healing, accountability, and transformation. Pride is more than celebration. It is remembrance. It is resistance. It is a witness to the sacred truth that every identity rooted in love and authenticity is a divine gift. Radical belonging is not optional — it is at the heart of the Gospel. May we continue the work of becoming a church that learns, acts with courage, and lives out love in word and deed. For more infomation visit:
