Sunday Worship Service

Sunday Worship Service

June 28, 10:30–11:30 am

The church board was on retreat near Nanaimo June 5–7 and we can imagine you’d like to know what happened. Well, this Sunday is your chance! The theme for the service will be reporting back from that retreat and we will hear from Board Chair Scott Jantzen and from Rev. Greg during the reflection.

Please note that our Sunday Service begins at 10:30. You are warmly invited to gather with us from 10:15 am, in our Sanctuary or online, for a time of musical reflection.

The Swing Rhythm Kings w/Tony Genge

The Swing Rhythm Kings w/Tony Genge

June 28, 2:00–3:30 pm

The Sunday Jazz Matinee at James Bay United Church presents the Swing Rhythm Kings featuring organist Dr. Tony Genge!

The swinging sounds of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong come to life with this jazz supergroup — an all-star, intergenerational jazz quartet.

Drummer and vocalist Kelby MacNayr partners with longtime musical collaborator Dr. Tony Genge and young virtuosos — trumpeter Owen Chow and tenor saxophonist Cole Ashley — for a swinging afternoon of jazz classics.

Admission by donation ($20 suggested). Everyone is welcome, regardless of their ability to contribute.

"Carol"

July 8, 7:00 pm, Lower Hall

The Pride Committee at James Bay United Church is thrilled to bring you a film sure to warm your heart, while reminding us of the struggles for many through the years. Struggles that still cast shadows for 2SLGBTQIA+ people around the world.

Starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, and set against the glamorous backdrop of 1950s New York, Carol is an achingly beautiful depiction of love against the odds.

We'll provide desserts and popcorn — perfect nibblies for a film!

Join us as we embrace Pride Week in Victoria and get ready for the Pride March on Sunday, July 12, where we show Victoria that we are "Opening Doors to God's Love."
