Our Charlotte Caron has been downsizing — and has too many books of poetry that she has written. So this Sunday at coffee she will have a table of books to give away to anyone who likes birds, poetry and photos.

The books are free but if you want to make a donation to our Community Lunch when you take a book that would be gratefully received.

Join three of Victoria’s traditional jazz, early swing, hokum and blues legends as they bring their magic to the Sunday Jazz Matinee.

The afternoon begins with a dance lesson at 1:30 pm. Everyone is welcome — no experience or partner required!

The concert begins at 2:00 pm.

Victoria multi-instrumentalist Dave Harris has long been a fixture of the local music scene, famous for his commanding presence in the downtown busking scene and his appearances at cafés, bars, nightclubs, and music festivals. Born in Toronto, Dave began his musical journey at an early age, studying violin and piano before adding guitar, banjo, stomp box, harmonica and numerous other instruments. He is a walking, living, breathing musical encyclopedia.

Many of us have questions, thoughts, fears, experiences, or simply curiosity about death and dying, but few opportunities to talk about them openly. Hosted by the James Bay Community Project and facilitated by local death doula Karla Kerr, this informal gathering, widely known as a "death cafe", offers a welcoming space to explore conversations about death and what it means to live well.

Tea & Mortality starts with a trial series of six biweekly sessions, from September 8 to November 17.

The JBUC Sunday Worship choir sings in special services from September to June and anyone in the community is welcome to join regardless of ability. If you are a newcomer or someone who wants to try out the choir for the first time, please know that your voice is so welcome.

We usually hold two Sunday afternoon rehearsals in the weeks preceding each choir service and a short rehearsal at 9:30 am the morning of the service. Please see the schedule.

Our Healing Pathway ministry is returning from its summer break!

Beginning September 9, we will once again offer Healing Pathway sessions in the Sanctuary on the second Wednesday of each month, with appointments available at 1:00 and 2:00 pm.

Our Healing Pathway Monthly Practice Group also returns on September 23. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, offering practitioners an opportunity to build confidence and develop their skills. By practising Healing Pathway techniques with one another, they continue learning, growing, and fostering community.

Seniors Climate Witness is a cross-Canada e-caravan led by seniors for a week of public witness in Ottawa (September 19–24, 2026) to urge the federal government to fund the future, not pipelines.

Across Canada, seniors are preparing to travel to Ottawa to take part in a national public witness and call for climate action. Others along the way are preparing to host, organise, donate, and welcome the caravans in their own communities.

Our church is following and supporting this initiative through our Social and Climate Justice Ministry.
