A Big Concert — and a Busy James Bay
Temporary road closures are in place around Victoria’s Inner Harbour this weekend for the David Foster and Friends Concert, causing some traffic disruptions. Event setup began earlier today, and the 500 block of Belleville Street is now closed to traffic and will remain closed through Sunday, August 9. Street-level parking in the 700 block of Government Street is also closed. On Saturday, August 8, road closures will expand around the B.C. Legislature grounds. The 600 block of Government Street (between Superior and Belleville) will close at 3:00 pm, with additional closures taking effect around 4:30 pm on Belleville Street (Douglas to Menzies), Government Street (Belleville to Humboldt), and Menzies Street (Belleville to Quebec). The David Foster and Friends Concert, featuring a drone and fireworks finale, runs from 7:30 to 10:15 pm — and luckily for those joining us earlier for our A Taste of Palestine dinner, we’re just a short walk from the Legislature lawns! Sunday Jazz Matinee Series: Great American Songbook TrioAugust 9, 2:00–3:30 pm, dance lesson at 1:30 pm Sunday Jazz Matinee Presents the Great American Songbook Trio — with a very special introductory swing dance lesson! Featuring the legendary pianist and vocalist Ms. Louise Rose, bassist Joey Smith, and drummer/vocalist Kelby MacNayr, the Great American Songbook Trio is a tour de force of jazz. Some time ago Louise requested that we hold a special spot for anyone wishing to learn a few tips on the very basics of the joyous art of social dancing. Over the past few months, we have been graced by the presence of our friends Alison and Andrew, two of the city’s beloved swing dancers and teachers. Although they are both unavailable to teach this week, we’ve invited a couple of other friends, Cave and Catie from the Swing Dance Association of Victoria, to give us a few pointers. Everyone welcome! Beginners absolutely welcome! No experience required. No partner required. :-) Dance lesson at 1:30 pm, live music at 2:00 pm For more infomation visit: http://jamesbayunited.com/events/sunday-jazz-matinee-series--712/2026-08-09
