This coming Sunday has been variously labeled: “Christ the King Sunday,” “Reign of Christ Sunday,” and “Christian New Year’s Eve” (because it is the last Sunday before the Christian year begins with Advent next week).
Rev. Maggie Enwright, currently serving as Acting Regional Minister, will be joining us to help celebrate the occasion and mark the day. Maggie invites us all to reflect on what kind of “king” Jesus was and is, and whether such an image is relevant for us in the church today. She will speak about Jesus inviting us to walk “the middle way”—the way that combines power with vulnerability.
Maggie will also share some of her experiences working with different congregations on Vancouver Island, serving as a connecting influence between those congregations and the wider church, as well as bridging historic rules with the current needs of communities of faith. She looks forward to getting to know the Community of Faith that gathers at James Bay United Church.

Our worship each Sunday is intended to be a collective experience, a communal practice. We might step into whatever is our sanctuary, each one of us as individuals, and yet as we assemble, from wherever we are, we become a people, drawn together through song and prayer, through word and ritual, and through the Spirit who breathes through it all, through us all. One and the same Spirit uniting us breathing us into life!
