Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church Presents Kelby MacNayr's Blue Note Repertory All-Stars!

Drummer and bandleader Kelby MacNayr assembles five of the West Coast's finest jazz musicians to celebrate the classic sound and feel of the Blue Note era with the music of Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Duke Pearson, and Art Blakey.

Featuring:
Miguelito Valdes — trumpet
Roy Styffe — saxophone
Dr. Tony Genge — piano
Peter Dowse — bass
Kelby MacNayr — drums

In a concert that celebrates not only the compositional genius and aesthetic of the era, but also honours the true spirit and essence of jazz — the authenticity of creative spirit, innovation, and collective experience — this ensemble brings together a wealth of musical traditions, histories, and personalities.

Admission by donation ($20 suggested), but all are welcome regardless of ability to contribute.

Artist Bios:

Miguelito Valdes, the acclaimed Cuban trumpeter, came to international prominence touring with the Buena Vista Social Club, the Afro-Cuban All-Stars, and others. As a jazz musician, he has shared the stage with Herbie Hancock, Danilo Pérez, Brian Blade, Wayne Shorter, and many more.

Roy Styffe has been at the forefront of Canadian jazz saxophone for over 30 years. A lyrical improviser, he combines the melodicism of Paul Desmond and the playfulness of Cannonball Adderley with the depth of John Coltrane.

Dr. Tony Genge has been a mainstay of the Canadian jazz scene for more than 30 years as a performer, composer, and educator. He has collaborated with artists including Roberta Gambarini, Jeff Hamilton, Russ Botten, Neil Swainson, and many others.

Peter Dowse, a left-handed electric bassist, brings his signature groove and collaborative spirit to this dynamic rhythm section and his longtime musical partnership with Kelby MacNayr.

Kelby MacNayr has built a distinguished career performing across North America with artists including George Colligan, Louise Rose, John Clayton, Ian McDougall, and many others. A celebrated drummer in a wide range of styles, as well as a highly regarded composer and bandleader, MacNayr treasures above all the spiritual connection that music creates between performers and audiences.
