An Order of Canada recipient and multiple JUNO Award–winning saxophonist, pianist, composer, and arranger, Phil Dwyer is not only a national treasure but a homegrown musical phenomenon.
A prodigious musical mind, Phil mastered the saxophone to an astonishing degree at a young age. Coupling his technical and musical brilliance with boundless creative passion, he has built a remarkable career performing and recording with leading musicians from Canada, the U.S., and around the world.
He has shared lifelong musical collaborations with legendary artists such as multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson, visionary trombonist and composer Hugh Fraser, master drummer Alan Jones, bassist Dave Holland, and countless others.
Bassist Ben Dwyer made his name on Montréal’s straight-ahead and new-music jazz scene, performing with some of the finest musicians of his generation as well as elder masters across the country. Today, Ben is a respected and sought-after artist on the international stage.
Master drummer Alan Jones spent his formative years between Salt Spring Island and Portland, Oregon, developing a truly West Coast and wholly original voice as both composer and drummer. Drawing inspiration from mentors such as the great Elvin Jones and his studies under the legendary Alan Dawson at Berklee College of Music, Alan forged a singular style – rooted in jazz tradition yet infused with philosophical and musical depth.
Throughout his career, Alan has collaborated with some of the most iconic and visionary musical minds, including trumpeter and composer Kenny Wheeler, bassist Dave Holland, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, saxophonist Phil Dwyer, and many more.
Forged on the streets of Brooklyn and honed through decades of touring and recording together across North America and Europe, the musical partnership between drummer Alan Jones and multi-instrumentalist Phil Dwyer is one of the most exciting and dynamic in contemporary jazz.
Rounded out by rising star bassist – and Phil’s son – Ben Dwyer, this intergenerational trio merges decades of jazz tradition with fearless modern expression. Phil’s commanding tenor voice and explorative piano work intertwine seamlessly with Alan’s roots in post-bop and avant-garde jazz and Ben’s deep groove and youthful insight.
Audiences can expect fresh interpretations of familiar standards, inventive original compositions, and rich musical dialogue layered with emotional depth and creative empathy.
