Tenor saxophonist and bandleader Andrew Greenwood has become a mainstay of the West Coast jazz scene, collaborating on numerous projects from straight-ahead jazz to contemporary funk and soul.
Studying jazz at the prestigious Humber College of Music in Toronto before returning to his home of Victoria, Andrew has been involved in many of the most exciting projects of the younger generation of jazz and jazz-inspired fusion groups in the city, including the New Groovement, Downtown Mischief, and RH Factor Tribute Band, which celebrates the fusion style of the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove, as well as numerous projects paying homage to the greats of jazz saxophone, including Dexter Gordon, Stanley Turrentine, Wayne Shorter, and more.
In this special concert, Andrew Greenwood turns his lens to the compositions of the great George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin.
Bringing together pianist Dr. Tony Genge, guitarist Andrew Janusson, and bassist Nick Mintenko, Greenwood celebrates some of the most well-known and loved compositions by one of the greatest popular music composers of the 20th century.
The writing duo of George and Ira Gershwin penned some of the most enduring classics of the era, from Lady Be Good to Porgy and Bess, Embraceable You, and I’ve Got Rhythm.
