Celebrating Black History Month: Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church proudly presents Ms. Louise Rose in a special solo concert of gospel music.

Time: 7:00 pm (Doors open at 6:30 pm)
Location: James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan St.
Admission: by donation ($20 suggested donation, but all are welcome)

Pianist, vocalist, composer, and educator Louise Rose is both a household name and a national treasure.

A musician with an incomparable history and profound musicianship, Louise possesses a deep desire to connect her music with her listeners.

In this special presentation, Louise treats us to a rare solo concert celebrating both the roots and contemporary practice of gospel music.

Louise has said that every performance is really “Church” — a bringing together of people and spirit through the shared experience of music. As part of our celebration of Black History Month, we are thrilled to invite Ms. Rose to present this special concert.

Ms. Rose has a long history with gospel music, as well as sacred and secular music, stemming from her upbringing in Norristown, Pennsylvania, in a family of clergy. Louise herself is an ordained Baptist minister — and yet it is a rare opportunity to hear her create a concert with a gospel focus.

Louise has a long and incredible musical history, studying with jazz luminaries such as Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Ray Brown; working as an accompanist for the great Ella Fitzgerald; singing as a backup vocalist with Ray Charles; studying composition with Brazilian bossa nova legend Antônio Carlos Jobim; and spending a lifetime performing with unwavering determination and passion for music that is authentic, deeply rooted in tradition, and connected to purpose and spirit.

Please join us for this very special concert!
