Time: 7:00 pm
Location: James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan St.

Join us for a very special evening celebrating our musical neighbours to the north. Nanaimo and the North Island have long been home to a veritable hotbed of international jazz greats – and this quartet is no exception!

Rising star vocalist Teighan Couch brings together an All-Star Quartet featuring some of the North Island’s finest musicians.

Acclaimed British pianist Nicholas Peck was a mainstay of the Vancouver jazz scene before moving to the Island. A regular favourite of musicians such as John Lee, Kelby MacNayr, Cory Weeds, and many visiting international greats, Nick is a virtuoso pianist known for his incredible personality and artistry.

Bassist Ken Lister has been a staple of the West Coast jazz scene for over 30 years. His legendary performances with the Juno Award-winning Hugh Fraser Quintet, the Ian McDougall Nonette, and countless others – including close collaborations with Phil Dwyer and Cory Weeds – have made him one of the most respected figures in Canadian jazz.

Drummer Hans Verhoeven is regarded as one of the finest on the West Coast. A rhythmic powerhouse, Hans brings his impeccable musicianship and energy to this All-Star Quartet.

Guest Artist Bio

Teighan Couch is a dynamic jazz vocalist and composer based on Vancouver Island, celebrated for her warm tone, agile bebop scat, and honest, unvarnished storytelling. She made her mark at the Nanaimo Jazz Festival, where her straight-ahead swing style and blues-infused delivery earned audience acclaim. Teighan was also hand-picked as a featured artist for the Port Theatre Discovery Series alongside pianist Ashley Wey, drummer Kelby MacNayr, and bassist Nick Mantinko.

On August 22, 2025, Teighan released her debut album It’s Pronounced Cooch, which features a mix of original compositions and inventive arrangements of jazz standards inspired by her favourite records. The album – essential listening for jazz lovers – is available on all streaming platforms and for purchase on Bandcamp.

This Tuesday, October 14, Teighan will present an intimate concert experience at James Bay United Church, joined by the personnel from her album: Nicholas Peck on piano, Ken Lister on bass, and Hans Verhoeven on drums.
