Honouring Vanya!
After being at the helm of our JBUC Office for 10 years, Vanya Smith, will be retiring at the end of April. It’s time to honour her for all she has brought to the life of JBUC over the years. From attending to the numerous tasks associated with running the office, to liaising with the minister, other staff and volunteers; from preparing our Sunday bulletins to creating our beautifully illustrated PowerPoint slides for our streamed services; from crafting eye-catching pamphlets to putting her artistic skills to work for our “Window Wanderland” creations, from putting together our Annual Reports to … well you get the idea! By way of showing our gratitude, we will be celebrating Vanya during our coffee time after the service on April 21st. If you would like to make a money contribution to go toward a farewell gift, you can pop that into the fancy box on the Greeters table. Please make any donations by April 17th. Since we don’t want these contributions going through Vanya, |

A message from Rev. Hilde
When the Creator called me to come and be among you, I felt blessed and honoured. Thank you for the privilege of serving with you and sharing the Ministry of this place, inside and outside the walls. You offered me the space to challenge some assumptions and to stretch your understandings of Worship. We celebrated well, the Holy One among us! I also know I made mistakes, please forgive me. During my final weeks, there were many expressions of gratitude for what I was able to offer. I felt your open hearts, your respect, your care and your compassion. You also gave me gifts … words, hugs, notes and a gift card to a great Book Store. Many thanks! Continue to be ‘people of the way’, sharing hope and Love while seeking justice even in the tough places. My spirit will soar as I reflect and remember. Deep Joy, Hilde

New in the JBUC library this weekWhat Happened to You? New in the JBUC library this week, a book in recognition of the work of Healing Pathway. What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing This book is presented as a conversation between the authors, Bruce D. Perry, M.D. Ph.D. and Oprah Winfrey and explores, among other topics, how childhood experiences shape our lives and relationship. It offers insights and tools to nurture healing, resilience, and self-awareness. The main purpose of the book is to shift conversations away from ‘what is wrong with you?’ to ‘what happened to you?” There is plenty of hope, with an explanation of post-traumatic wisdom and how people can have the capacity to heal from huge trauma. |
