Sunday Worship & Summer EnLightenment Series

Sunday Worship & Summer EnLightenment Series

Sunday 2 of 5 — Sunday, August 3 at 10:15 am

This week we continue with our lay-led Summer EnLightenment series drawing upon Barbara Brown Taylor’s book “Holy Envy — Finding God in the Faith of Others”. As Barbara explores Hinduism — and in particular the Hindu deity Shiva — she invites us to question along with her how often we “assume that we know what we are seeing when we see other people practicing their faith”. If we allow ourselves to be open and curious, how might some dimensions of the Hindu tradition resonate with and even illuminate something of our own Christian tradition? Join us for this time of wondering and worship.
More about our Summer EnLightenment Series

Question to consider: When have you felt the boundaries of your faith shift in encountering another tradition?

Presiding: Rev. Bev Tracey

Reflection Reader: D'Arcy McPherson
Scripture: John 12: 20-26

Honouring Emancipation Day

Honouring Emancipation Day

August 1

Today we mark Emancipation Day, commemorating the Slavery Abolition Act of 1834, which ended slavery in most British colonies — including what is now Canada.

We give thanks for the strength and resilience of Black communities and remember that the fight for justice and equality continues. As a faith community, we recommit ourselves to walking alongside all who seek equity and dignity.

United Church apologizes in historic service

The United Church of Canada will offer a historic apology for ways in which the denomination has hurt and harmed 2S and LGBTQIA+ communities within and beyond the United Church. The apology will take place in the context of a special livestreamed worship service from Calgary at 9 am MT (8am Pacific) Friday, August 8.

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

and on, and on, and on!

Today, we thought we'd shake things up a little. There’s so much happening in and around the Church — exciting events, community projects, and behind-the-scenes ideas buzzing in our heads — that instead of sending out just another (hopefully not boring!) newsletter, we asked ourselves: what if we lifted the curtain and gave you an insight into our creative chaos?

So, we did just that. Click the link below to read a very personal note from your Communications Team — raw, real, and straight from the heart. And let us know what you think! We truly appreciate your feedback… even the “tough love” kind, haha.

If you enjoy this new format, we just might do it again — but only when you least expect it ;-)
