Sunday Service in Irving ParkSunday, July 21, 2019 Sunday’s coming. And the forecast is brilliant for the neighbourhood picnic in the park.
It will be a casual affair ... though there’s been NOTHING casual about the preparations. You’d think we were preparing for the Great Wedding Feast ... and truth be told, a taste of that awaits us, as we gather with friends and neighbours, for anything can happen at a picnic. (Check out Matthew 14: 13-21)
And then there’s this, to help ready us for the day ...
Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety --
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light--
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.
-Mary Oliver
Hoping to see you in the park,
Karen

Sunday Survival KitWhat I NEED to Know (Q&A) Q- What time is church this Sunday? A- A little earlier than usual ... we will start at 9:55am sharp. Q- Where is the service being held? A- Irving Park, just across Menzies St. right next to James Bay New Horizons. Q- Is there a regular Sunday Service IN THE CHURCH BUILDING A- NO. WE ARE VERY EXCITED to be co-hosting the morning Church Service in the Park along with the Capital Unitarian Universalist Congregation of James Bay. The service will be a non-denominational celebration to create a welcoming space for all the activities of the James Bay Neighbourhood Picnic at Irving Park that day. Q- Do I need to bring a chair? A- NO, we have lots of folding chairs, but if you have a special comfy lawn chair you like, you are welcome to bring it. Q- Will there be an offering. A- NO. Q- What if it rains? A- It will not rain. Q- How long will the service be? A- 45 to 50 Minutes -- service will end by 10:45 Q- What happens afterward? A- Coffee and tea and music and fun and getting to know your neighbours. Q- Should I bring my own picnic lunch? A- It depends on you ... bringing some of your favourite things to snack on makes sense. But there will be hot dogs and bananas and granola bars offered. We had no idea idea how many people to provide for, so as Karen alluded, there is biblical precedence for feeding 5000. Q- Will there be a Sunday Evening Service with Karen? A- Yes! Karen and Daniel and West My Friend will be at the church Sunday Evening for the third in their July Evening Series. Q- but wait I have one more question ... A- call 250-213-1948 any time. |
