Sunday Worship and ChoirMarch 8, 10:15–11:30 am This Sunday, the third Sunday of Lent, we read about the Samaritan woman Jesus meets at Jacob’s well. Only John’s gospel tells this story, which, though it is full of unknowns, gives tremendous insight into Jesus’ ministry. John situates her testimony of Jesus as the Messiah as a launching point for the next phase of Jesus’ ministry. How fitting that we celebrate this woman on International Women’s Day! Our Sunday Worship Choir will join this remarkable service, gathering for a brief warm-up at 9:45 am before worship begins. Tired? Sleepy? Not in the mood to head out? Download the bulletin and join us online. For more infomation visit:

Remember the Prayer BasketTake a Prayer or Leave a Prayer Throughout the season of Lent — when PRAYER seems to take on an extra special dimension — you will find a Prayer Basket placed on the table at our prayer station. Here you are invited to drop in any prayer requests … AND, if you wish, retrieve a prayer request that someone else has entrusted to this sacred space so that you might uphold that person throughout the coming days. In this way, we can nurture our care for one another — both within and beyond our faith community. If you are unable to come to church in person but would like to add a prayer request, please send that to Pastoral Care Team and we will make sure your prayer makes it into the basket. Reconciliation at Stake: Zoom Conversation with Simon OwenMarch 19, 7:00–8:15 pm, online Reconciliation at Stake: The Cowichan and Gtxaala Decisions The ground of Indigenous-settler relations in BC — in both legal and literal terms – is rapidly changing. Our commitment to reconciliation, including the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, is being tested in fundamental ways. The Cowichan Tribes and the Gitxaala court cases, in particular, are being taken up as battlegrounds for contesting the meaning of property, authority and, ultimately, whether we will follow pathways of respect or conflict when it comes to the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous law. Simon Owen’s talk will explain why these cases are so significant, how they are being (mis)used to provoke division and what lessons they hold for allies committed to understanding and respecting Indigenous laws as we continue to live on, be cared by, and draw wealth from unceded and Treatied lands.
