Sunday Worship ServiceNovember 8, 10:30–11:30 am This Sunday we continue exploring The Lord’s Prayer, focusing on the “your kingdom come” part. This section encourages us to remember that when we converse with God, we are asking for God’s will to be revealed and for the strength/courage/wisdom/perseverance to pursue it. We free ourselves of the desires that may have been imposed upon us (*ahem, social media, advertising, etc) and stay open to God’s Way. Listen to Rev. Greg offer a preview of this Sunday’s worship (YouTube) Please note that our Sunday Service begins at 10:30. You are warmly invited to gather with us from 10:15 am, in our Sanctuary or online, for a time of musical reflection. Affirming process at JBUC
The Affirm Team put together a display board last week, and we had it available on Sunday after service, along with some handouts, as we all begin the process of becoming an Affirming Congregation. The display board and handouts will be up again on November 15 and 22. The Affirm Team encourages everyone to read the info on the display board and to ask team members questions about what it means to begin this process, to consider becoming an affirming congregation. Our process will be collaborative with the Team offering the congregation various options for learning about how we can continue to be inclusive and what other opportunities may be available to us to draw the circle wider still. Please check out our webpage for more info on what our process will cover as we go forward together. For more infomation visit: https://www.jamesbayunited.com/pages/affirming-process-at-jbuc

Neighbours Supporting an Afghan FamilyNovember 7, 10:00 am –1:00 pm, James Bay Community Centre We’re sharing this invitation from another refugee sponsorship group whose members are primarily our James Bay neighbours. This fundraiser supports a different Afghan family from the one James Bay United Church is sponsoring, but reflects our shared commitment to helping families find safety and reunite with loved ones. The group is holding a community garage sale and art sale to help reunite an Afghan family, with proceeds supporting family members who remain at risk in Pakistan. Saturday, November 7, 10:00 am –1:00 pm Please see the poster for the family’s story and further details. If you’re able, drop by, browse the artwork and other treasures, and support our neighbours in this hopeful work.

Reminder: Community Meeting with the BoardNovember 8, after the Sunday Service To the Whole JBUC Community: Don't forget — November 8, after coffee time, in the Lower Hall. This is the second of the three fall gatherings the Board wrote to you about in September. After a good first conversation with staff and ministry/program leads on October 18, we’re ready to share our current thinking on the governance model and organizational structure — including ministry and program clusters and Ministry Stewards — and to hear from you before anything is finalized. We’ll also talk through the 2027 budget process. Pizza lunch provided. For more infomation visit: https://www.jamesbayunited.com/ministries-and-programs/jbuc-board/pages/governance-model-update

Wednesday Advent ExplorationWednesdays, November 25–December 16, TBD Our Wednesday Advent Exploration begins Wednesday, November 25 and continues weekly until December 16. Come for one or come for four, it’s all good. We will be looking at some of these questions as they relate to the Christmas Story: was it necessary for Mary to be a virgin? What’s with all the angels and dreams? What are the wise all about; were there wise women? The group will determine the focus of the final session. Time of day to be determined. |
