A Gesture Toward Reconciliation - Cross Canada Quintet - Why I love the image of Jesus as a gardener

James Bay United Church
James Bay United Saturday ENews and Invitations
A Gesture Toward Reconciliation

A Gesture Toward Reconciliation

plan to attend and learn more

In June we’ll receive our property tax notice for our Thrift Shop.  As with other City of Victoria property owners, we’ll receive, along with the notice, an invitation to contribute to the Reconciliation Grant, the money going to the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. Rather than making a contribution on the congregation’s behalf, the Board decided to convene a congregational conversation, inviting a wider sense of sharing in this gesture toward reconciliation. That conversation will happen this Sunday, following the service, in person at the church, and by zoom for those participating online.

We’ll have information about the grant, what’s involved in making a contribution, and time to wonder about our role in highlighting the opportunity in the neighbourhood.

The moments in the Gospels when I connect with him the most are when his humanity shines through

By Anne Thériault | April 5, 2022

A few years ago, when I was going through a particularly challenging time with my mental health, I woke up one morning and knew that I had to plant a garden. That idea — that knowing, really — felt like the first clear thought that I’d had in weeks, maybe even months, and I knew I had to act on it before the fog came rolling back in.

It might not be the most inviting pitch, but it’s true:  meeting Jesus will likely mess up your life. Have you experienced that re-arranging? Our gathering this Sunday will find us reflecting on the story of Saul and his encounter on the road to Damascus … it marked the beginning of a whole new life.

Presider: Rev. Karen Dickey
Music: Jennifer Turner

Scripture: Acts 9:1-19

An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation

An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation

With Kam McKim - Sunday, May 15, 2022

Consider this an opportunity to open into new life this Easter Season.  No experience necessary!  And if you are looking for a refresher or companionship in the practice, this would be ideal.

The series involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to ground the body, open the heart, clear the mind, and help reduce stress. A portion of each session will involve some teaching.  The remainder will be an experience of the practice itself.

Leadership: Kam McKim, by zoom

5 Sundays, 3:45-5pm, beginning May 1
