The Holy Spiritis present and alive through people like us The 50 days of Easter culminates this Sunday with our celebration of Pentecost, with its high drama story of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples who are altogether in one place. Some would say this is what the resurrection was “for”: the birth of the spirited new community, which Jesus promises, in John’s Gospel, will go on to do even greater things than he. One more time it’s a revelation of Love’s way, to be present and alive and at work in the world in and through people like us and unlike us … this unlikely choice of our earthy selves to be about the mending of the world. The James Bay Community Chorus will join us, adding strength to our voice, freedom to our singing … who knows how we’ll find ourselves conspiring with Love’s power! For more infomation visit:

Reconciliation Contribution Program – To Recognize Lekwungen Landsa gesture toward reconciliation PHOTO: Eugene Sam of the Lekwungen Dancers Photo Credit: Kellie Hart. Our online and in-person conversation 2 weeks ago affirmed our congregation’s gratitude for the opportunity we have been given by Victoria City Council and the City Family to make a contribution toward the Reconciliation Contribution Fund. We have chosen June 19, the Sunday closest to National Indigenous Day of Prayer, to be the day we gather up both our personal and our collective contributions as part of our service honouring that day. Should you wish to contribute by cheque, please make it out to James Bay United Church, noting Reconciliation Fund in the memo line. If you are sending a contribution by mail, it would be great to receive it in time for the 19th.

Jennifer TurnerGratitude for our first month together What a great first month we’ve had with Jennifer Turner at the musical helm! Already we have been so graced by her music leadership, her soulful presence, her warm engaging way with us… and of course her angelic voice! If you joined in last Sunday’s worship service when Linda, Sarah and Joan joined Jennifer in creating our Gathering Song as a round, you’ll see that Jennifer is keen to welcome the musical gifts of those in our midst. If that resonates with you, do let her know so she can plan ways to incorporate those gifts as time unfolds. For more infomation visit:
