Our second step toward establishing an ongoing recital series in our neighborhood — an opportunity to cultivate a vibrant space for classical music in James Bay — celebrates the arrival of Summer!

James Bay United’s Music Director, Jennifer Turner, invites you to an evening of love songs featuring Johannes Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder-Walzer, a quartet of local professional singers, and a piano duo. In addition to the Brahms, singers will present a potpourri of quartets, trios, duets, and solos that celebrate love in all its forms and complexities with works by Hoffman, Purcell, Finzi, Mozart and more! As we welcome summer into our midst, we are reminded that it is worthwhile to tilt in the direction of love and light.

The Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder-Walzer is moodier than his earlier Op. 52 Liebeslieder-Walzer. Yet, even in the complexities of love, we discover that it was worth tilting towards love rather than away, just as the earth tilts towards the sun offering warmth, light, and tremendous thunderstorms.
Summer has many moods and textures. As we experience renewed vitality and abundance, there is something discovered within us and asked of us …
