Join three of Victoria’s traditional jazz, early swing, hokum and blues legends as they bring their magic to the Sunday Jazz Matinee.

The afternoon begins with a dance lesson at 1:30 pm. Everyone is welcome — no experience or partner required!

Victoria multi-instrumentalist Dave Harris has long been a fixture of the local music scene, famous for his commanding presence in the downtown busking scene and his appearances at cafés, bars, nightclubs, and music festivals. A celebrated and legendary one-man band, Dave draws on blues, early jazz, swing and hokum traditions.

Victoria multi-instrumentalist Clark Brendan is a highly regarded mainstay of the local music scene and a founding member of some of Victoria’s most successful and best-loved swing, traditional jazz and early blues groups, including the Big Band Trio, the Flying Saucers and many more.

Saxophonist and clarinettist Al Pease is Victoria traditional jazz royalty. A brilliant improviser in the tradition of clarinettist Benny Goodman and tenor saxophonist Lester Young, Al has toured the world — and, luckily for us, has made Victoria his musical home for the past forty years.

Música do Brasil brings the scintillating rhythms of Brazil to Tuesday Night Jazz! Incredible vocalist Sara Marreiros and Cuban pianist extraordinaire Pablo Cardenas join bassist Peter Dowse and drummer Kelby MacNayr to perform classics of Brazilian bossa nova, samba and more.

This veritable supergroup of West Coast performers draws on a deep love of traditional Brazilian music, jazz, contemporary music and world music influences.
