wonderful music at James Bay Uniteda note from Gordon Miller This Arts Ministry Newsletter is packed with great opportunities for you to immerse yourself in music of all kinds. A huge thank you goes out to you the wonderful audience that took in the Samuel Bonnet Trio last Tuesday. We were transported as the evening took on an international flavour with these seasoned Montreal based musicians. On Friday this week, Cari Burdett opens her album release tour at James Bay United. The Tiny Rhythm Kings are hosting the swing dance and Sunday Matenee Series, and ‘super ager’ Lloyd Arntzen joined by Avram McCagherty on banjo will take centre stage on Tuesday. Truly a weekend for giving thanks for the great music in our neighbourhood. Here’s something very special to plan for: On Sunday afternoon (October 18th) Louise Rose is inviting us to be part of a live recording at the church. With Kelby MacNayr on drums and Joey Smith on bass, the American Songbook Trio will be backing Washington State vocalist Carol Burton as they capture the event, with you as the live studio audience. This is a unique intimate opportunity for us as a jazz community and I hope you will plan to attend. (more details to come) There is a swingin' musical gift for you at the bottom of this ENews, so take your time, enjoy all there is to offer here. ... wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Cari Burdett’s Don’t Forget Album ConcertFriday, October 9, 7:00–8:15 pm Victoria-raised singer-songwriter Cari Burdett returns to her hometown with her newly released album Don’t Forget and a five-piece band featuring some of BC’s wonderful professional musicians. Almost ten years after her previous album Magnolia, which was nominated for Best World Album at the 2016 Western Canadian Music Awards, Don’t Forget marks a significant return to original music and performing for Cari. During the making of the album, Cari lost her singing voice to a paralyzed vocal cord and, for a time, believed she might never sing again. Years later, her voice returned, she completed the album, and she is now bringing the songs to communities around the Salish Sea. SLIDING SCALE TICKETS Check out the title song from Cari's new album.
