Today’s newsletter is a little different. Alongside our usual preview of the upcoming Tuesday Night Jazz show (apologies for the very late notice!), you’ll find invitations to open rehearsals with two choirs that are also part of our church’s Arts Ministry.

We’ve also included a report from the JBUC Board to the congregation, which we hope will interest our jazz audiences too. It offers a glimpse into the life of the community you help make possible.

Renowned multi-instrumentalist and composer John Lee takes centre stage on guitar with an all-star trio, celebrating the classic sounds of the early Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole trios.

Fresh from his latest recording session for the acclaimed Cellar Live label, John brings his swinging guitar style to a lineup featuring Tony Genge on piano and Louis Rudner on bass. Together, they explore the rich interplay of guitar, piano, and bass in this timeless jazz tradition.

Join us for an evening of swinging jazz with some of the finest musicians in the country!

Admission by donation ($20 suggested). All are welcome, regardless of ability to donate.

Each week a fabulous group of people in the James Bay Community Chorus gathers to warm up their vocal cords, learn some new (or old) songs, laugh and sing together. This non-auditioned group is opening the doors wide on the 23rd so that you can check it out and discover what it's all about. Expect to learn about singing, and songs, and how to use your voice, AND then enjoy some cookies and community. 

Use the west 'ramp up' doors (on the Menzies Street/Discovery Coffee side of the building) and we'll see and sing with you soon!

Do you know any young people looking for a safe, fun, free after school activity? The Emerge Youth Chorus is welcoming new members aged 9 to 15 years this coming Thursday September 24th.

Come meet the leadership team, Christine Chepyha and Gordon Miller, and stay for the demonstration rehearsal/open-house.

This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents and guardians to see first hand the joy of group singing and to introduce their young people to a life-long hobby that has so many proven emotional, social and cognitive benefits.

In June, I reported to you after the board’s retreat, and I promised that you would hear from us more often. This report is part of keeping that promise.

In late May, many of you shared with us — at the lunch meeting, through an online feedback form, and through our mid-week ministries and programs. You shared what is going well, what is not going so well, opportunities that we need to keep in mind, and situations, both internal and external, that may threaten our church. Those responses were gathered into a summary that we have kept close through the summer, and that has informed the board’s work.
