Thursday Morning Prayer

Thursday Morning Prayer

Thursday, January 7, 2021

Drawing on Philip Newell’s Celtic prayer, we begin with music and continue with an opening prayer, scripture with silence, and an opportunity to pray for the coming day and the life of the world.

We’ll begin at 8 am, concluding around 8:20.

Here's a link to the order of service ... you could have it open on your screen, or print it if you like.

The world as a home of homes

The world as a home of homes

re-igniting the longing for it

This Thursday January 7th at 5pm, tune in to an interactive on-line lecture with Miroslav Volf.

His theme:  Humans have always longed to be at home in the world. Yet today, we seem further away than ever from realizing that dream, more alienated than ever from the “world of things” around us. Drawing on the resources of the Christian tradition, this lecture will sketch a vision of the world as a "home of homes" and attempt to reignite longing for it.

“Values for a New World” is a series of lectures sponsored by the John Albert Hall Lectures (Anglican Diocese of BC and the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society at UVic).

Taking Down the Tree

Taking Down the Tree

a poem by Jane Kenyon

...

The ornaments go down into the box:
the silver spaniel, My Darling
on its collar, from Mother's childhood
in Illinois; the balsa jumping jack
my brother and I fought over,
pulling limb from limb. Mother
drew it together again with thread
while I watched, feeling depraved
at the age of ten.
