A prayer in the Waiting

Dear God,

I am reminded this Holy Saturday that you are no stranger to death, darkness, or doubt. Help me to remember, as I wait with-in my own discomforts and fears today, that you are still present, even when I can’t see you. You know waiting is hard…. and yet you ask us to lean into the waiting, for your Love to be revealed in your perfect timing. I rest in you, as I wait for what only you can do. Amen

A ‘Tomb Time’ Prayer

Holy One,
Be with me as I embrace the Mystery of death defeated, so I can look forward to each new day. Help me to feel a calm, this Holy Saturday. Guide me to trust in what I cannot see, or even comprehend, during this confusing “tomb time”. Strengthen my resolve to live as a follower of the Christ, offering hope and justice to all. Amen

Isaiah 42:2,4,5

Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

You are precious and honoured in my sight
and I love you . . .
Do not be afraid for I am with you.

Loving God, Teach us to take refuge in you when we are afraid.
Remind us that death is not our end.
Teach us to hope always in you and in resurrection . . .
the making of all things new.
In the name of the Christ we pray. Amen

Abba God, The silence of Saturday is deafening. But you spoke so loudly on Friday that the
earth shook. You tore the veil in the temple from top to bottom, signaling to us
that we would no longer be separated from you. As I think about Jesus’ life, his
ministry, and his teachings, I am overwhelmed with Love.
As I sit here quietly and reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus, I give my heart anew…
to the ways of justice and love. May the thought of the tomb transform my own
soul as I anticipate Easter morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Holy One, whose broken heart we perceive on Calvary, in the strength of
your compassionate Love give us the courage to acknowledge both our
inner pains and the pains of the world. May our lives be infused with
the power of your transforming Love.

O God, why are you silent? I cannot hear your voice.
The proud and strong and violent all claim you and rejoice.
You promised you would hold me with tenderness and care.
Draw near, O Love enfold me, and ease the pain I bear.
May pain draw forth compassion, let wisdom rise from loss.
O take my heart and fashion the image of your cross.
Then may I know your healing through healing that I share,
your grace and love revealing your tenderness and care. ~ Marty Haugen
