Going to the Movies for Lent
5 Wednesdays, beginning March 1

A series of movies that invite us into transformative encounters, featuring:
Bound, Falls Around Her; Dancing in Jaffa; Gun Hill Road, Born in Syria and more.

Come for a simple supper at 5:30pm; movie begins at 6:30pm
in the Lower Church Hall.  Enter off the patio at the back of the building.

On Wednesday, March 29th, our movie is Just Mercy.

This week’s movie is Just Mercy, featuring something of the story of Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard law graduate who focused much of his career on eliminating the death penalty and life-without-parole sentencing for minors.  Just Mercy traces his journey south to help prisoners in Monroe County, Alabama, and in particular his efforts to defend Walter McMillian, a man sentenced to death despite evidence proving his innocence.

“One power that movies at their best have is that they help us to imagine: Imagine beyond our bubbles. Imagine beyond our own circumstances. Imagine new possibilities and different paths.” – Jeff Chu
