THE MOVIE: 'ELVIS'
This is an extremely gripping cinematic experience, with awesome performances by newcomer Austin Butler (where did he find that voice?) and an unrecognizable Tom Hanks as his manager, Col. Tom Parker, a truly evil man who systematically destroyed his money-making 'golden egg'. Most of us know the story of Elvis Presley, who apparently died of an overdose while preparing for yet another performance in Las Vegas. This movie gives detail that really slams home a set of truths about his early home-life and his remarkable beginnings in the travelling Southern Gospel tents. Multiple awards so far, and 8 nominations for the Academy Awards.
