The people of James Bay United Church have opened the sanctuary of the beautiful heritage building at 511 Michigan on Tuesday evenings for the benefit of the local community.

Tuesday night jazz at the church presents:

The Tom Vickery Trio!

Affectionately called the grandfather of jazz in Victoria, pianist and bandleader Tom Vickery has been performing continually in this city and beyond For over 50 years and has maintained a residency at Hermann’s Jazz club since 1981!

Vickery is from the era of musicians where musicians learned to play in small family bands and dance bands and came up on the East Coast of Canada as a trumpet player and later piano player and band leader. Vickery has had a distinguished career with the Canadian Forces bands and brings to the stage a wealth of understanding of jazz history and Most importantly his hallmark youthful exuberance, swinging style and distinctive repertoire. Joining Tom Vickery will be his longtime bassist Robert Forbes Johnson and drummer David Emery.

Accessible music venues that you can walk to right in the neighbourhood encourages good mental and spiritual health. And with the help of local jazz legend Kelby MacNayr, we're bringing some of the best of the best in the Victoria jazz scene to the heart of James Bay ~ A venue without distractions ~ where the focus is you, the music and the sacred space to listen.
