The brainchild of guitarist, banjo player, and vocalist Avram McCagherty, The Capital City Syncopators is an all-star outfit playing Prohibition-era jazz.
Featuring the outrageous Australian trumpeter Simon Stribling, the mighty sousaphone of Don Cox playing the role of the bass, and percussionist extraordinaire Matt Pease at the drums, this band brings the sound of early jazz to life!
Avram McCagherty has been a mainstay of the local jazz scene for over 20 years, performing in traditional jazz, Django Reinhardt-inspired styles, and swing. A specialist in Klezmer music and Irish styles as well, Avram is a prodigious historian, storyteller, and entertainer.
Having led and collaborated with many of Victoria’s most beloved groups, including The Stamp Club, Toni Blodgett’s CanUS, the Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra, and Amore, Avram’s performances are always highly anticipated.
Simon Stribling’s work has been celebrated across three continents, and he is one of the country’s most highly regarded traditional jazz trumpeters. A consummate showman and energetic powerhouse on the bandstand, Stribling’s performances never disappoint!
