This June marks a truly historic moment: the 100th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada. Across the country, communities of faith are celebrating a century of spiritual life, social justice, and shared ministry—and we at James Bay United Church are thrilled to be part of it.

We’ll be honouring this milestone over three Sundays with special services and joyful moments of reflection and celebration:

Sunday, June 1Kicking Off the Celebration
We begin with a service led by Charlotte—a gifted voice in our community. This will be a time to reflect on where we’ve come from, how we’ve grown, and what it means to be part of this unique denomination in today’s world.

Sunday, June 8Pentecost & Baptisms
On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate not only the birth of the Church but also the beauty of new life and belonging. Three baptisms will take place during the service—what better way to mark a new century of faith than by welcoming new members into the community of Christ?

We will hold a potluck lunch on June 8 as part of our celebrations of the centennial and Pentecost. In the spirit of Pentecost when many nations came together to hear the Word, folks are invited to share their family tradition and recipes and bring a favourite dish to share.

Everyone is invited to wear red—the colour of Pentecost—to symbolize the fire and Spirit that move through our community.

Sunday, June 15
We’ll look back in gratitude and forward in hope, remembering the legacy we carry and imagining the future we long to create together. Expect music, storytelling, and a spirit of deep connection.

We hope you’ll join us for this joyful journey across three Sundays. Whether you’ve been part of this church for years or are new to the community, these services are a celebration for all.

Let’s mark this centennial with gratitude, courage, and love.
