We have some good news to share and are also requesting your assistance and action.

Our federal e-petition supporting vulnerable Afghan refugees is now officially live through the Canadian House of Commons e-petition system, with the support and sponsorship of our MP, Will Greaves.

The petition calls on the Government of Canada to urgently support Afghan human rights defenders, educators, women’s rights advocates and their families who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban’s return to power and are now awaiting refugee or humanitarian resettlement from Pakistan. Many remain in precarious circumstances and face the risk of detention or forced return to Afghanistan while their Canadian applications are still being processed.

The petition asks the Government of Canada to:

  • expedite refugee and humanitarian applications for vulnerable Afghans in Pakistan;
  • implement temporary protection measures while applications are under review;
  • increase processing capacity to reduce delays; and
  • work with international partners to help protect refugees awaiting decisions.

In order for the petition to be formally presented in Parliament, it requires a minimum of 500 signatures from Canadian residents or citizens. The petition will remain open for 30 days, with the hope that it can be presented during the current spring sitting of Parliament before the House adjourns for the summer.

Because of this limited window, members of the congregation are warmly encouraged not only to sign the petition, but also to share it widely with friends, family, faith communities, advocacy groups and organizations that may wish to support this humanitarian effort.

Many thanks for your ongoing support and prayers!
