Good morning, James Bay United Church,

After being knocked out for 2 weeks by that nasty chest virus, I’m grateful to be breathing more deeply again.  I now know a little more about what so many of you have been working with these months.
Tuesday’s Board meeting was a fine way to re-connect with some of the great people and the good work happening within and before our congregation.  Out of  that meeting, I have 2 invitations to extend to you ...
1.  I wonder who among us is especially curious and caring about the Michigan Street development across from our church building?  We’re looking for a small team of people who, with others in the neighbourhood, would engage in some conversation together about possibilities for connections, for extending hospitality, for exploring hopes as we anticipate the arrival of our new neighbours.
If this is something that calls to you, PLEASE be in touch with me.

2.  There are a number of proposed changes within the denomination of United Church of Canada that members of the Church all across the country are being asked to consider ... these are significant changes to several polices and to our organizational structure.  While ultimately it is the members of the Board who vote on the questions, the Board is eager to hear the input of those of the congregation who are especially interested.  There is an introductory letter and 4 brief background documents available online.  [Scroll down the page to "Study Guides ... Category 3: pastoral charges and presbyteries" -- you'll find a study guide for each proposal to be voted on before the end of June.]  We will also have printed copies available at the church.  If you would like to be part of a conversation with members of the Board sometime during the first 2 weeks of June, please let me know by May 24 and I will be back in touch to arrange for a suitable meeting time.

Before the fireworks light up the sky on Monday night, we’ll gather at our usual time (10:15) for worship on Sunday morning.  I look forward to seeing you ... it’s been a long time!
Happy Victoria Day weekend.
Grace and Peace,
Karen
