Percy Millard Butler, P. Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon.), born in Leask, Sask., died in Victoria, BC after a brief illness.

His long and good life will be celebrated by his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Janice Butler of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Graham (Presley) and Susan, great-grandchildren Emerson and Hudson and numerous other family and friends, especially fellow residents at The Wellesley, members of the Broadmead Men's Coffee Group, his swimming and golfing buddies, fellow Rotarians from 65 years of service and members of James Bay and Centennial United Churches.

Percy was predeceased by Marjory, his wife of 52 years, parents Ada and Edward and brothers Jim, Tom and George.

Percy graduated with Great Distinction in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1946 and embarked on a distinguished career in consulting engineering, first in Toronto and from 1950 in Edmonton, for the most part as CEO of Angus, Butler Engineering Ltd. In 1989, he semi-retired and moved to Victoria. During his career he served as President of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and a director of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

More important than his professional accomplishments were the many ways in which he helped others. Whether assisting people attain their educational goals, helping those less fortunate, or working tirelessly on many volunteer boards over the years, he truly lived the Rotarian motto of Service Above Self.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 10 at 2 PM at The Wellesley, 2800 Blanshard St, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
