“Christians think of Jews as very close kin,” says Barbara Brown Taylor. “We share so much heritage that we often speak of “the Judeo-Christian tradition” as if it were one instead of two.”

As we launch into the 5th and final in our Summer EnLightenment series drawn from Barbara Brown Taylor’s book, “Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others”, we will have an opportunity to learn along with her just how many differences that hyphen really spans. And as with her exploration of Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam, we are invited to open our hearts and minds to the spiritual riches God can teach us from the faith of others.

The Victoria Fringe has already begun, and tonight James Bay United Church joins the festival as a site! The very first performances of Ducks and Useless are taking the stage this weekend.

An important update about Fringe Buttons: you’ll need one to see any show. Buttons can be purchased online or at the venues listed on the Fringe site (but not at JBUC).

Join our Climate Action Team this Saturday, August 23rd from 1:30–3:30 pm at the Church for a hands-on workshop as we prepare for the Draw The Line rally coming to Victoria on September 20th.

We'll be crafting pennants and flags that will hang on a symbolic Red Line and Green Line during our Day of Action — standing for People, Peace, and Planet.

If we create enough, we’ll proudly display them during our upcoming GREAT BIG Open House on September 6th too.

Do you know a young singer aged 12+ who’d love to share their voice and make a difference? This fall, Mount St Mary Hospital is inviting youth to join the Heart to Heart Intergenerational Choir, singing alongside residents with dementia, their family members, and community volunteers.

The choir will be directed by our Gordon Miller, well-known for leading the SingYourJoy Family of Choirs.

Rehearsals: each Wednesday, Sept 17 – Dec 10, 6:30–7:30 pm @Mount St Mary Hospital, 861 Fairfield Rd (at Quadra)

Young volunteers can not only share the joy of singing, but also earn volunteer hours that can be helpful for scholarship applications, academic admission and career opportunities.
