This fall, Mount St Mary Hospital is opening its doors and hearts to youth singers aged 12 and up for a very special musical project: the Heart to Heart Intergenerational Choir.

Every Wednesday evening, young volunteers will join residents living with dementia, their family members, and community singers to share in the joy of music. The choir will be directed by our Gordon Miller, who is well-known in the wider community as the Co-Director of the SingYourJoy Family of Choirs.

When and Where

Dates: September 17 – December 10, 2025
Time: Wednesday evenings, 6:30–7:30 pm
Location: Mount St Mary Hospital, 861 Fairfield Rd (at Quadra), Victoria

More Than Just Singing

This choir is about more than making music. It’s about connection, compassion, and community. Young volunteers will not only lend their voices but also share meaningful moments with residents who may otherwise feel isolated.

Youth are invited to take part in different ways:
5:45 pm – arrive early to enjoy a free light dinner of sandwiches and wraps
6:10 pm – lend a hand with portering residents to the choir space
6:30 pm – simply come and sing with the group

Whatever role they choose, every youth participant will contribute to creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere where music becomes a bridge across generations.

Why Join?

For young singers, this is a unique chance to:

  • Give back to the community in a meaningful way
  • Build confidence, communication, and other transferable life skills
  • Gain volunteer hours valuable for scholarships, academic applications, and career opportunities
  • Combat negative stereotypes about ageing
  • Experience the power of music to connect hearts and uplift spirits

How to Get Involved

If you know a youth singer who would love to participate, we’d be delighted to welcome them.
