James Bay United Church Sponsorship Committee is working urgently to bring an Afghan refugee family to safety in Canada. This remarkable family was forced to flee Afghanistan in 2022 after the father—who founded seven schools for Afghan girls and championed women’s right to education and self-determination—was targeted for his advocacy.
Now stranded in Pakistan, they face daily threats of eviction, deportation, and detention. Unable to work legally and with their savings exhausted, they are left vulnerable and dependent on outside support just to survive.
Thanks to generous donors, funds are already in place to support them once they arrive in Canada. But right now, they need our help to cover the basics—food, shelter, and daily necessities—while the Canadian High Commission processes their case.
This family has shown extraordinary courage and resilience. With your support, we can ensure their safety and dignity today, and give them the chance to rebuild their lives and continue their inspiring work for education and equality once they reach Canada.
Note: If more money is raised than is required, the Board of James Bay United Church has authority over the funds and will reallocate the donated funds as it deems appropriate.
