Join us for the inaugural Sunday Jazz Matinee Series at James Bay United Church!
Featuring the legendary pianist, vocalist, and band leader Toni Blodgett, with her traditional jazz group CanUS and special guest Daniel Lapp.
Toni Blodgett has been playing piano and singing the classic hits of traditional jazz for over 40 years, and she is one of the most well-loved and respected musicians for generations on the West Coast.
Special guest trumpeter Daniel Lapp is Victoria and Canadian jazz royalty. A magical improviser, equally at home in the world of Louis Armstrong on the trumpet and in the world of Stéphane Grappelli on the violin.
The legendary clarinetist Al Pease returns to the stage for a special jazz performance! Al Pease has been speaking the language of Benny Goodman for over 60 years and is one of the most respected clarinetists in traditional jazz in the country.
Drummer Matt Pease, son of Al Pease, has been swinging up a storm on the drums and is one of Victoria’s most sought-after drummers for rock, country, and traditional jazz.
Bassist Ryan Tandy got his training through the Esquimalt Jazz Studies Program and is now one of the most in-demand bassists in the city, working with everyone from Maureen Washington to Damian Graham to Toni Blodgett and David Vest.
Admission by donation ($20 suggested, but all are welcome regardless of funds)
