“Advent” which means ‘coming” is coming indeed! as we gather this Sunday. It is the first day of this season that celebrates the story of love that comes to us, crossing a seemingly impossible distance to meet us, entering our life and all that it holds. While we may be taken unawares – how can it be Advent already?!-- through song and prayer, through reflection and communion, we will be drawn into this season potent with longing. We’ll light the first of our Advent Candles – see the note below about sharing your thoughts. For those joining online, you may wish to have your candle available to you, and even the wreath if you’re that prepared!; along with some bread and wine or juice to share in our celebration of communion. I look forward to celebrating with you.
Rev. Karen Dickey
We begin with one of our Advent practices this Sunday as we light the first of the candles in the Advent Wreath, the Hope candle. This week our candle lighting practice gives us pause to contemplate the ways we make ourselves susceptible to rumours and signs of hope, for Tapping into Hope is one of the paths by which we make way for new possibilities to emerge and welcome Love’s way to be born in the world. So that our candle lighting ritual gathers up a number of our voices, I invite you to jot me a brief note before Sunday morning, finishing this sentence: I tap into hope by ______________.
Our worship each Sunday is intended to be a collective experience, a communal practice.
We might step into whatever is our sanctuary, each one of us as individuals, and yet as we assemble, from wherever we are, we become a people, drawn together through song and prayer, through word and ritual, and through the Spirit who breathes through it all, through us all.
One and the same Spirit uniting us breathing us into life!
