Good afternoon, James Bay United Church,

A special Sunday coming up with our All Saints celebration.  It's the day we remember how powerfully companioned we are by that immense host of witnesses who have not only gone before us, and not only await us, but hover round us in ways that lend us courage, deepen our trust, and give us clues about how to be fully in this life such that the love and mercy, imagination and generosity of God shines through.  This Sunday as well we will share in a ritual of covenanting with Ryan, our student intern ... as we undertake with him and he with us this journey of offering ourselves for learning and growing together.

Daniel has asked me to include the open inivitation to anyone wishing to join with others in leading a simple and uplifting anthem by Bernadette Farrell this Sunday. "We will begin our warmup promptly at 9:30 in the lower hall. Open to all voices. Come as you are.  An excerpt of the song can be heard here. Please give it a listen, and if you find yourself humming it, then please join us."

Speaking of singing, last week's note alerted us to a vocal workshop -"Tuning into Yourself"- being offered by our own Louise n ha'Ruby.  November 6, 1-3pm at the church.  I gather the email address I noted to be in touch with Louise was incorrect.  So one more time, to indicate your interest, please be in touch with Louise at 250 732 5356 (cell, talk or text), or email.

Also in last week's note I mentioned that our website has the capacity for us to create an on-line directory, with our photos and contact information.  It's been years since JBUC has had photo directory.  This will be a first for a directory that will enable us to connect with each other from a mobile device ... and one that we can easily keep updating.  We'll of course print hard copies for those who are not on-line, and be sure their info is also included.  All we need now is for each of us to take that step of signing in.  Nola reports, we have a shy congregation! with only 2 people signed up so far.  Halloween treats will be on offer tomorrow for anyone who has signed up by then!  (Yes, this is a bribe). I'm including here the guide Nola provided us last week.  As you'll notice, there are significant measures in place to ensure that the information shared will be secure and accessable exclusively to the people of the congregation.  What follows is a guide from Nola ...

You will need to apply to add your information and a photo. This step is the security measure put in place so that not just anyone can view the contact info of all members.  Here are the directions

Once your application has been accepted you can log into the directory using your password. Here are the directions for viewing the directory. You can always edit your own information to keep it current.

When you log on to the Directory just click on the contact card of the person you want to email.

No internet? No problem! We will be arranging for our own photographers to take your photo and have you fill out a contact form. Then your information will be added to the directory. We are looking forward to having everyone represented in the Directory and then making print versions.

Don't forget ... signing in today means a treat tomorrow!

Grace and Peace,  Karen
